NEWSFLASH! ! ! THE GANDY DANCER JAM at the Old Train Depot will return spring 2012. Check back for date and time. Welcome to the Wilkes Acoustic Folk Society (WAFS) web site. Founded in 2000, WAFS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization focused on nurturing musical appreciation and talent. Our mission is the enjoyment, perpetuation and encouragement of all types of acoustic music, educating the public in music appreciation and forms of self entertainment, sharing of musical ideas, venues, performing, passing down, and preserving this region's musical heritage for our youth.

The 2011-2012 school year of the JAM (Junior Appalachian Musician) program is up and running. Dr. Craig Tidline at Roaring River Elementary School is working closely with John Logsdon, Instructor and Board member of WAFS and JAM, to make this years program as successful as last year. JAM focuses on traditional, string instruments, dance, and voice.
